Be Careful with Diabetic Retinopathy
Long-term hyperglycemia can lead to systemic vascular diseases, especially microvascular diseases, and thus cause serious damage to heart, brain, kidney, eyes and feet.

3. To strictly control blood sugar through drugs, insulin, diet and exercise

Hyperglycemia is one of the risk factors for diabetic retinopathy. The higher the blood sugar, the longer the course of the disease, the higher the risk of diabetic retinopathy.

In patients with a 5-year history of diabetes, 25% have retinopathy; In patients with a 10-year history of diabetes, 60% have retinopathy; In patients with a 15-year history of diabetes, 75% have retinopathy; In patients with a 25-year history of diabetes, 97% have retinopathy.

In addition, hypertension and high blood lipids are also important factors leading to diabetic retinopathy and should be strictly controlled.

If diabetic retinopathy has occurred, how to treat it?

To treat it comprehensively so as to prevent vision loss.

1. Controlling diabetes

Controlling blood sugar to normal or near normal levels can reverse early diabetic retinopathy.

2. Medication

Some drugs, such as Doxium, are helpful for the regression of microangioma, and TCM syndrome differentiation is effective for the treatment of simple diabetes, which can alleviate and control the development of the disease.

3. Laser treatment

For more than 30 years, laser therapy has been the most effective and widely used technique for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

4. Surgical treatment

Vitreoretinal surgery is necessary when diabetic retinopathy is very serious, such as non-absorbable vitreous hemorrhage and traction of the retinal detachment.
